WalletLens Market Index — Live Cross-Asset Risk Appetite Score
The WalletLens Market Index is a live 0–100 risk-appetite score covering every major market on one page — crypto, global equity indices, volatility, precious metals, forex and commodities — updated continuously from public market data. It is free for anyone to read, cite, and link.
What the score measures
The index measures risk appetite, not how much of the market happens to be green. That distinction decides the arithmetic: gold rising is money running from risk, and a strengthening dollar tightens financial conditions for every risk asset — so both push the score down. Each group below is scored 0–100 in the risk-on direction, then blended.
How the score is calculated
- Crypto — 30%: the share of the top 100 coins up over 24h, with the average 24h move of the top 50.
- Equities — 30%: how many of ten major indices across the US, Europe and Asia are up — S&P 500, Nasdaq, Dow Jones, Russell 2000, FTSE 100, DAX, CAC 40, Nikkei 225, Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite — and by how much.
- Volatility & havens — 20%: the VIX level (12 is calm, 35 is a scare) and gold read as a safe-haven bid.
- Dollar & growth — 20%: dollar weakness across the major currency pairs, plus copper and oil as a read on industrial demand.
When a market data source does not answer, that group is dropped and the remaining weights are rebalanced rather than counted as zero. The live page states whenever a score was built from partial data.
How to read the score
- 0–24 — Extreme Caution: broad flight from risk, volatility elevated and safe havens leading.
- 25–44 — Caution: risk appetite fading; defensive assets bid over growth.
- 45–55 — Neutral: mixed signals across asset classes, no clear directional edge.
- 56–74 — Constructive: money moving into risk in most markets, volatility contained.
- 75–100 — Overheated: broad risk-taking; historically a time for caution, not chasing.
